my name is ashley and i have decided to write M.U.L. to help myself and other people find more meaning in their purchases and in their possessions.
with that being said, for many of us style is one of the main things that we spend time and money on, and many of us don't spend enough time being thoughtful about our fashion oriented purchases. i know that i hadn't thought about them that much.
i used to fall into the trap of buying disposable clothing [i will discuss this in another post, or you can google it] and buying beauty products that were garbage, but had great marketing. now, i have chosen to take more time choosing which products i decide to buy. for example, recently i got so tired of all of the clothes in my closet. i could never decide what to wear because i hated all of it [and there were a lot of clothes in my closet].
my aunt that i live with mentioned that i could experiment with a capsule wardrobe, and i found the idea intriguing. a capsule wardrobe is a collection of clothing and accessories that consists of a specific number of items. most people who decide to do a capsule wardrobe do seasonal capsules. i decided that i would give a capsule wardrobe a try, and make a summer capsule.
i went to a few nearby goodwill thrift stores and found $200 worth of used clothes in fantastic condition, and threw away all of my old stuff that i didn't want. the great thing about goodwill is that no matter what brand the clothing is it all costs the same amount.
i ended up buying 10 new shirts, 5 jackets [including a blazer and a cardigan], 4 pairs of shorts, 3 dresses and 3 pairs of shoes.
the total number of articles in my summer capsule is 44. however, i would like to cut down to around 35 articles of clothing.
my summer capsule consists of
11 pairs of shoes
2 pairs of jeans
items that do not count as part of the capsule are pjs, undergarments [ including undershirts, work out clothes, swim suits, outerwear [coats, gloves, scarves, hats], and house wear [including slippers].
an important thing to note is that if you care about doing a capsule you don't really want to take advantage of the items that don't count as part of the capsule. the whole reason why someone would want to try a capsule wardrobe is to cut back on the amount of clothing that you own.
after august i will start putting together my autumn wardrobe and i will post pictures of it when it is complete! i hope that this was helpful to anyone who is considering doing a capsule wardrobe!
